The amazing history of Violet's Cupboard
"Violet was a generous 62 year old grandmother from Youngstown who loved to help care for other in need of assistance. Her story started in 1984 when she contracted the HIV virus from a routine blood transfusion during heart surgery. She passed away in 1987. In honor of her commitment to the community, the Cupboard was opened in 1989 to assist person living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The Cupboard was named after Violet. In 2002 alone, they distributed over 66 tons of food to people in Summit, Portage and Medina Counties".
Violet's Cupboard was designed to provide a continuum of care to persons infected/affected with HIV/AIDS and their traditional and non-traditional family members. With their comprehensive system, Violet's Cupboard strive to improve the quality of life and to enhance the dignity of daily living for the people they serve. Violet's Cupboard work with each person to individually assist with their problems and create a workable plan for the future.
Violet's Cupboard was created to provide a one-stop agency for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Violet's Cupboard partner with other providers to obtain the highest quality of services for our clients' always striving to provide those services with compassion and dignity.

If you are HIV+ or have AIDS your Case Manager will help you explore options to find the best treatment plan for you and the people you love. These services include:
Project Diversity: A program to insure that our services are culturally responsive to diverse populations. This program has earned the Ujimi Award, American Eagle Award and the Tom McComsey Award
Support Groups are designed to meet the needs of the individual and their family.
Project Gate House A collaborative effort between Violet's Cupboard and Community Health Center to provide culturally specific case management and non-residential substance abuse treatment.
